One small point of clarification...the lady that showed up at the door and handed over the kid was actually a relative (Aunt Nadine), not the Dept. of Child Services. I agree with you, doesn't work that way. As to the other "implausibilities," the story itself has more in common with Seinfeld (or Nick Hornby) than Law & Order.
