Meat From The Mailbox.

Back in May of 2009 I received a sample of ‘Salamini’ in the mail. It was some type of salami meat snack. When I received it it was so hot from sitting in the mail truck and my mailbox that it was bubbling inside its package! I was too afraid to try it or even open it.

Jump ahead nearly two years. It’s the middle of January 2011 and while looking for something on my old catch-all desk on the other side of the room I discovered that I hadn’t thrown out the ‘Salamini’ sample. It’s darkened a little but in all honestly it doesn’t appear to have changed or decayed at all!

I find this to be both fascinating and mildly repulsive. I wonder what the shelf life on vacuum packed meat like this is? I wonder what would happen if someone ate this… I wonder about a lot of stupid things.

My friend Kevin kept a maraschino cherry in a desk drawer for four years and for all four years it looked EXACTLY as it had looked the very day he first placed it in the drawer. Our food has waaaaaay too many preservatives for our own good.

I hope it means I zombie on for a few years after I kick the bucket. That would be amusing…
