Quintessential Guitar

I’ve listened to a lot of music over the decades and I’ve decided; Stevie Ray Vaughn doing ‘Lovestruck Baby’ off the 1983 album Texas Flood, is perhaps the best bit of guitar playing I have ever heard. Absolutely flawless.

    Seriously 🙂

No one did it better than Stevie Ray. We lost him waaaaay too soon.

“I’ve said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie [Ray Vaughan] missed on both counts, but I never noticed.” – B.B. King

Agreed, he left us far too soon. I can’t begin to imagine what he’d have acomplished by now if he hadn’t died.

Q: How many guitarists does it take to play an SRV lick?

    A: Apparently, all of them.

While I dig SRV, and have been a fan long before he blew up, I must say that there are quite a few Blues guitarists that I feel are more than qualified to foot the “Best Blues Guitarist” tag. I also feel that his playing was better when he was using; much more edge and sweat. But not a patch on Peter Green, Paul Kossoff or Eric Clapton back in the Sixties… when he was pissing in his diddies.

Ah, Greg, but that I wasn’t calling for the best all around blues guitarist I was speaking specifically of this one song as being perhaps one of the single most perfect recordings I’ve ever heard.
