Impressive…

I’m impressed :)

Hawk (whee!)

It’s not a 300 baud world anymore…

When I started in on this crazy stuff I had dumb terminal with an acoustic coupler (show of hands, how many of you have ever even SEEN one outside of the movie War Games?) running at 115 baud. I moved on to a Vic-20, 5 whole K of RAM, a cassette player for data storage and a blazing hot 300 baud modem. Woo….

Now I’ve got a 7Mbit connection and I can download 250 megs in just over 7 minutes during peak internet usage hours (9pm - 1am EST). it ain’t yer gran’daddy’s modem no more…

Happy Turkey Day..

Well, for the turkey’s it’s not a very happy day but for the rest of us…

Broadbandiversary…

Ok, yet again a day late and a dollar short. Yesterday marked EIGHT years since RR/Bright House installed my broadband connection. Eight freaking years. Man how time files…

311 Hours, 27 Minutes…

I don’t care what anyone says about Windows Vista! I’m not at all unhappy with it. My old Windows 98SE machine wouldn’t have gone 48 hours without needing to be rebooted and that with only email, telnet and some web surfing. I was up and running for 311 hours and 27 minutes and the only reason I rebooted was because I applied a couple Windows updates that required a reboot. I was in and out of Photoshop numerous times. I played many multi-hour gaming sessions of ‘Rise of Nations’ and Vista was rock solid. I like it! So there! Nayh!

Where’d the fireflies go?

Has anyone seen a firefly lately? I haven’t. They used to be all over the place down here when I moved to Florida 13 years ago. I’ve talked to people from around the area and no one can remember seeing one for the longest time but they also didn’t even realize they were gone. I think it’s space aliens. They’ve captured all the fireflies and they’ve erased most of our memories of ever having them….

By writing this I’ve probably made myself a target. Don’t be surprised if this blog entry mysteriously changes to one about cooking brownies or something but I had to speak out while my memories are still my own…

Seriously though… Anyone seen a firefly lately?

Hawk (blinkbugless)

Woops, I’m a day late..

Was going to write this yesterday, got distracted by some shiny tin-foil and missed the boat…

It’s been four weeks. One full month (and a day now, damnit!) since I had a cigarette! I’ve saved myself approx. $145 by not smoking the last four weeks. I figure I’ll save a minimum of $1,500 over the next year, not smoking cigarettes… I could use $1,500….

Picture Day 2.01a

Picture day, it’s picture day again!

The weather’s finally turning ‘nice’ here in Florida. Nice being mid 70’s to near 80 with low humidity. It takes a while but we finally get ‘fall’. Even the leaves on the few maple trees down here are turning color and might even fall off this year…

So, here’s the pictures I took while out driving around today. Be warned: if you’re on dialup some of these may take a while to load as a couple are near or over 500K.

Enjoy!
