I often fall asleep with the TV or stereo on, it gives me something to hypnotize myself to sleep with. The other day I was watching a late night re-airing of a ball game on ESPN and the white noise the crowd generates lulled me asleep. I awoke some time later with some sports news show playing and heard the following:

The closest local rain gauge to our area reported a total rainfall from Tropical Storm Fay of 17.79 inches.

Maybe the last update. Rains are down to a light sprinkle. Water’s seriously receeded from the street and the major canal across the road. Weather radar shows we’re going to be getting a break from the rain bands and if the stupid storm gets a little forward motion, it’s freaking stalled again, we might be out of this.

IT WON’T STOP RAINING! This is insane. It let up a bit last night, drizzle instead of downpour and the water even went down quite a bit in the streets. Now it’s freaking POURING again and the radar’s showing yet another huge and heavy rain band sweeping into the area. Enough already, Fay, go meet some new people!

Outside, for the first time in what feels like a week, it’s NOT raining! Still feet of water on the roads and we’re still completely trapped, neither of our cars could get out of here.

Damn! It’s STILL pouring. Lots of cars getting stuck out on the road next to us. LOTS of stupid people ignoring the ‘Stay at home, please!’ plea from the county/state. I’ve been here something like thirteen years and I’ve never seen flooding this bad. We couldn’t leave if we had to. Guy on the news just reported we’ve received more than half our annual rainfall in the last 48 hours.

It just won’t STOP raining! Streets are re-flooded, wind’s way up. Damn storm was supposed to be past us by now and it’s worse than it was last night…

STILL pouring like crazy. ‘Official’ rainfall tally for the area is 9+ inches. The next town over reported over 12 inches of rain. No end in sight. Bit more wind than earlier.

Pictures!

1) Upwelling of water out of the storm drain (at least a foot of water) in my yard.
2) Sidewalk under water. If you look between the two houses the water in that canal has to be at least 30 feet deep and at that level at least 100 feet wide.
3) Better view betwixt the houses.
