A famous matador, Jose Tomas, was gored, severely, by a bull on Saturday the 24th of April. He was so severely injured that doctors at the arena operated on him without anesthesia! I cheered. This despicable practice of destroying animals for sport and the pleasure of bloodthirsty imbecile spectators is an archaic idiocy, a holdover from stupider times and it needs to end. I don’t care about your traditions, Spain, Mexico, wherever, it’s horrific.
Go, Bulls, Go!
Bullfighting in a nutshell: First they tease the bull, testing his ferocity. Then a picador (”lancer”) enters the arena on horseback armed with a lance and repeatedly stabs the animal weakening it and forcing it to keep it’s head lowered, this makes it safer for the matador to torture it. Then three ‘flagmen’ attempt to drive multiple sharp, barbed sticks (those fluffy bright things you see bouncing around on the bull’s back in the video) into the bull’s back to further weaken and enrage the animal. Finally the matador reenters the arena with the traditional red cape everyone recognizes and a sword (which, oddly, many people don’t know about) after further torture and humiliation the spectacle of horror is brought to an end when the matador stabs the bull to death with his sword. What a HERO!

Worst delivery and tracking system, ever…
Smartpost is a program where shipments are picked up by FedEx and routed to the nearest large USPS sorting hub to the delivery address and then the USPS carries the package to the delivery address. Their ability (or lack thereof) to track your packages is amazingly deplorable, even the USPS tracking/delivery confirmation system, which is next to useless, is better than Smartpost.
Current (as of 1:42 PM 04/22/2010) shipping information:
Ship date Apr 16, 2010
Estimated delivery Apr 24, 2010
Apr 16, 2010 3:01 AM Shipment information sent to FedEx
Apr 21, 2010 6:59 PM Arrived at FedEx location ORLANDO, FL
That’s right… The package that just arrived (did I mention I got it this afternoon?) is still in Orlando and won’t be delivered until Saturday.

The other night I took a sleeping pill as I hadn’t been sleeping well for a while. On a side note; if you haven’t tried the ingredient Doxylamine succinate (in Unisom tablets and available as a very inexpensive generic from Wal-Mart) it’s FAR superior to the more common diphenhydramine hydrochloride found in things like Tylenol P.M. Read more about it here.
As I was saying, I took a sleeping pill then, twenty minutes later I realized Serenity was on TV. Okay, I’ve got the DVD but still, it’s Serenity! I had to put it on. Not long after the movie started I zonked out completely {aww}. I woke up, the gods only know how much later, hot sweaty and in the dark. Still zoned out completely on the sleeping pill I hit the power button on the TV remote several times before I realized everything, the stereo, lights, TV, etc. was off. I dragged my ass out of bed and spent five minutes finding the flashlight I’d ‘conveniently’ left right next to my night stand {ugh}. Stumbling into the living room I dug out the number for Florida Power & Light. The first number on the Rolodex card went to some guy’s answering machine, I don’t recall the business name but, SORRY! I tried the 2nd number written on the card, got it wrong and woke some nice but very annoyed lady up at 3:30 AM (REALLY SORRY!). I finally deciphered my mother’s handwriting and got the automated service, you’re not allowed to talk to real people, it’s against the rules. I booped and beeped through the menu options, waited FOREVER for it to repeat my phone number and address back to me and eventually ended up hearing:
“A service technician is on the scene and determining the cause of the outage. The time to repair this problem will be longer than previously expected and you should expect your power to be restored by 4:55 AM.”
I hung up, sighed and decided I’d just fall asleep sitting there on the couch, it was cooler in the living room than in my bedroom at least. I’d JUST closed my eyes… and the power came back on. It’s like they knew. It’s like they WAITED for me to call with my honey glazed brain and fumble through their system THEN they threw the switch and turned the power back on!
THEY DID IT JUST TO MESS WITH ME, I KNOW THEY DID!

Procession of the Dead (The City)
By: D. B. Shan
An eclectic mix of Mayan mythos and Godfather style gangsterism Darren
Shan has created an interesting story of anti-heros that will keep you
reading until the very end.
Shan an already prolific children/young adult author makes his adult
novel debut with ‘Procession of the Dead (The City)’ in which young
Capac Raimi arrives from points unknown and untold to live with his
uncle, a somewhat failed career criminal, and learn how to be a
gangster.
Soon after his uncle’s untimely death Capac becomes the protege of The
Cardinal, the crime lord who virtually owns and controls The City (which
has, apparently, no name).
While being groomed for bigger and better things Capac begins to realize
he has no knowledge of his life before arriving in The City. He can
remember debarking from the train when he arrived but little else before
that but strange flashes and dreamlike snippets.
Even odder people around him are disappearing, completely. Once their
gone no one else except Capac remembers any detail of their existence!
An interesting story in which the protagonist isn’t a hero or even
a very nice person. I enjoyed the plot twist making you involved with and care
about a criminal and killer. Bring on the next chapter of the story, I
for one cannot wait.
Four Stars
